Swedish massage

"The effects of simple touch are quite remarkable. Pain is lessened...by the simple contact of the hand." Dr. J. H. Kellogg, The Art of Massage, 1895

The benefits of massage have been known and documented for thousands of years. Our deep need for touch is an essential one in which massage has a tremendously powerful and positive role, as well as the therapeutic effects of helping heal various ailments and imbalances. The need for 'time out' has never been greater in our fast society. It's now generally recognised that at least 70 per cent of illnesses today are stress-related. Having a regular massage can have a hugely positive impact in preventing illness because it reduces stress and relieves tension in mind and body. A good massage soothes, uplifts, re-balances, energizes, invigorates and generally makes you feel good!

Aromatherapy

‘The way to health is to have an aromatic bath and scented massage every day". Hippocrates

Aromatherapy isn't just about nice smells! At El Bethel it's about using pure essential oils derived from plants mainly for their physiological effect as well as their fragrance and effect on mood and emotion. These oils have powerful and unique properties which increase the benefits of massage and can help in the treatment of many common disorders and skin complaints as well as keeping the skin looking youthful. An aromatherapy massage alleviates stress, relieves tension and promotes deep relaxation. The synergy of essential oils with massage is an effective combination in treating stress-related conditions because of the powerful interaction of touch and smell.

Reflexology

"The foot is probably the most neglected part of the body although it receives the greatest trauma of all." Dr. Albert Kligman, University of Pennsylvania, USA

Reflexology is more than a simple foot massage. Although it includes several massage techniques, it's a treatment which stimulates the body's own healing processes through applying gentle pressure to reflex areas on the feet. Our feet are a mini-map of the whole body. All our body parts, organs and glands are represented or reflected in the foot and laid out in the same arrangement as in the body. Our feet are remarkably sensitive, more so than our hands, so a reflexology treatment on the feet can actually feel as if you've had a full body massage!

Reflexology can -

Encourage the body to heal

Improve the immune system

Relieve pain

Improve circulation

Relieve stress

Improve bowel movements

Stimulate the nervous system

Help eliminate toxins

Rejuvenate tired and aching feet

Promote a sense of balance and well-being

Indian head massage

"It is the common wonder of all men, how among so many millions of faces, there should be none alike". Sir Thomas Browne

The traditional Indian head massage practised by women in India using natural vegetable oils to keep their long hair healthy and strong, was originally restricted to the head and hair. Now it also includes the upper back, shoulders, upper arms and neck. Tension is so often stored in the shoulders (we quite literally "shoulder responsibility"!) as well as the head and neck areas, so this massage is great for releasing tension and bringing a deep sense of calm.

Indian head massage can -

Reduce tension

Relieve stress

Increase circulation

Improve energy levels

Improve concentration

Promote clearer thinking

Reduce headaches and migraines

Reduce eye strain

Improve breathing

Help sinusitis

Reduce depression

Improve sleep patterns

Strengthen and nourish the hair

At El Bethel this massage can be with or without using oil on the hair.

We also offer the new anti-ageing cream Salix Alba (made in the Lake

District and suitable for all skin types for both men and women) as a

lovely and natural alternative for those who would rather not use

oil on the face.

Stone therapy massage

"Early the next morning Jacob took the stone he had placed under his head and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on top of it. He called that place Bethel". Genesis 38.18-19

Hot stone massage is a deeply relaxing, therapeutic treatment using naturally shaped basalt or volcanic stones to massage the whole body. Hot stones are also placed on various parts of the body during the massage. This treatment begins with a dry skin body brush before using the hot stones to improve skin tone and texture and stimulate the circulation. All skin types benefit from this and it allows the essential oils used with the stones to penetrate the skin more quickly and effectively.

Stone therapy can -

Break down fatty tissue

Relax the nervous system

Lower blood pressure

Increase metabolism

Boost the immune system

Relax muscles

Improve skin tone

Increase circulation

Improve digestion

Help eliminate toxins
